This cherished mantra, traditionally sung at the end of Kundalini yoga practice, carries a rich history. Originally a Scottish blessing, it was brought to life by The Incredible String Band, a popular 1960s Scottish folk group that ended their sets with the song May the Long Time Sun. Around the same time, Yogi Bhajan, a pioneer of Kundalini yoga in the West, heard the song and asked for it to be played after his classes. This request sparked a beautiful tradition that continues in Kundalini yoga practice today.
